Abstract

1333887 Colour television PYE Ltd 4 Sept 1972 40959/72 Heading H4F The quadrature modulated subcarrier chroma signals U and V are separated while maintaining their quadrature relationship from a PAL colour signal with quarter line offset by means of a comb filter in which the signal is delayed by one and two line periods, and a delay line having a delay of one quarter of the colour subcarrier period. As shown a PAL signal at input 1 is fed via a filter 2, which passes the chroma signal and the high frequency components of the luminance signal Y, directly and via one line period delays 4 and 8 to a summation circuit 5, directly to a difference circuit 11, and via one line period delay 4 to a difference circuit 14. The output from summation circuit 5 comprises 2Y and this is reduced to Y by potential divider 10 and passed to difference circuits 11 and 14. The outputs from difference circuits 11 and 14 are added 18 and subtracted 20 directly and via a delay 21 of one quarter of the colour subcarrier period to derive the U and V chroma subcarrier signals with their quadrature relationship which are demodulated in synchronous demodulators 26 and 27 to obtain the chrominance signals (B-Y) and Π(R-Y).
