Abstract

1,014,704. Coating apparatus. MORNING- STAR-PAISLEY Inc. June 12, 1964 [Feb. 17, 1964], No. 24598/64. Heading B2B. A melting device, particularly for hot melt adhesives, comprises a first melting zone, a second melting zone adjacent the first zone and control means between the melting zones which means are pervious to liquids but impervious to solids. The device shown in Fig. 2 consists of an upper portion 11 angularly inclined to a lower portion 12 and a grate-like member 15 arranged between the two portions. The upper portion 11 has electric heating devices 16 under the control of thermostat 31 and the lower portion 12 has heating devices 20 controlled by thermostat 30 each separate and independent from the other. In use the heaters are switched on to heat up the two zones 18, 19, and lumps of unmelted material inserted into the inclined upper portion 11. The grating 15 holds back the lumps in the portion 11 until they are melted. The liquid melt drains through the grating 15 into the lower reservoir portion 12 where it is brought to the desired working temperature by heaters 20 and passes out through suitable outlets 22 for use as desired.
