This invention rela-tes to improvements in' gluedissolving and retaining apparatus.
One object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character having va nonsteam Contact dissolving and retaining mechanism whereby the dissolved glue may ,be retained and kept warm until drawn from the apparatus.
A further object is to provide a glue dis`- solving apparatus having a glue dissolving pan adapted to be readily removed from the apparatus when. desired.`
With these and other objects in view the vinvention 'consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and ar rangement of parts as will be more fully de# scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; `Figure 1 is a lcentral vertical section ot my improved glue dissolving apparatus; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; with the lid or cover removed.
In the embodiment of the invention, I provide a main tank or casing l which may be provided with supporting legs 2 or supported in any suitable. manner. In the tank 1 and spaced a suitable distance above the bottom thereof is a transversepartition 3 which forms in the lower portion of the tank a water compartment 4 which is adapted to receive the water formed by the condensation of the steam employed in dissolving the glue and by means of lwhich the dissolved glue is kept warm until drawn from the apparatus. On theupper edge of the glue dissolving pan is arranged an outwardly projecting bead or flange 100 which when the pan is' in place, engages the upper edge of a right angular-ly formed annular gutter or trough secured to the inner side of the tank adjacent to its upper end as shown. The gutter or trough 15 forms a closure between the upper portion' of the tank and the outer. sides of the pan for a purpose hereinafter described. The pan 10 is provided with suitable handles 1G whereby the same may be readily lifted from the upper 4portitn of the tank. The upper open end of the pan 10 and the upper end of the tank are closed by a conical shaped cover 17 having on its under side adjacent toits outer edge a depending 'flange 18 which fits into and engages the upper end of the tank as shown. The space between the partition 7 and the trough or gutter and surrounding the glue dissolving pan 10 forms a. steam chamber 19 with onev side of which is connected a steam inlet pipe 20 and with the opposite side of which, near the upper end thereof, is connected Aa steam discharging or pressure relieving pipe 21. 0n the inner side of the casing 1 over the end of the steam inlet pipe 20 is arranged a deilecting plate or hood 20 against which the steam strikes on entering the steam chamber 19 and by which the steam is deflected and caused to circulate uniformly around and through the chamber.

Also discharging into the water compartment 4 is a drain' or condensed steam conducting pipe 23 which also passes upwardly through thg compartment and partition 7 and has its upper,end connected with the gutter or trough 15 whereby any water of condensation accumulating on the inner side of the lid or cover 17 and dripping therefrom into the gutter is drained from the latter and conducted'to the water compartment 4. The water of condensation thus conducted to the compartment 4 serves to keep the dissolved glue'warm in the compartmentr.
The water compartment 4 is provided in,
one side with an overflow pipe 24, near the upper end thereof or immediately below the partition 3 as shown. The water compartment Il is also provided in one side with a draw oil' faucet 25 by means of which the water may be removed from said compart` ment when desired.
By thus constructing and arranging the various parts of the apparatus the steam employed for dissolving or melting vthe glue in the pan 10 cannot reach or come in con;- tact with the glue either while being dissolved or after the saine has entered the dissolved glue compartment.' V'By thus dissolving the glue without permitting the steam to come into contact therewith the quality of the glue is greatly improved. By thus constructing and arranging the various parts of the apparatus it will be, seen that both the dissolving compartment or pan Wand the retaining compartment are com-4 bined 'ordisposed in one tank thus providing a compact and eflicient apparatus for the purpose described.
Attention is invited to the peculiar and advantageous arrangement of the interior construction of the apparatus and per cularly to the manner in ,which the remo-mille dissolving pan issuppcrtcd by means of the partition 7 which serves thc two-fold pose ofa cover for the dissolved gi' partment and a support for the di' .f pan which, when enga-ged with .',he part 7 forms a steam tight connection .hetvecn the pan and the dissolved glue colinpartment at the same time permitting the pan to he readily removed from the apparatus when desired. Further attention is invited to the arrangement ofthe warming feature of the apparatus wherein the melted .eine .in the compartment 5 1s kept warm by tue from the water of condensation dripping into the water compartment ll and by such part of the steam as may pass fronr the steam chamber 19v through the drain 22 to the water compartment.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing :from the principle or sacrificing any of the advan tages of the invention as claimed.
