A pilot tube comprises a tubular forward portion 13 opening at its rear end 26 into a chamber 23 of greater transverse cross-sectional area than the forward portion 13, a tubular rear position 27 leading from the rear of the chamber 23 and a heater 20 which maintains the forward tubular portion 13 at a temperature above the freezing point of water but leaves the rear portion of the chamber 23 unheated.
