Abstract
1,014,376. Television pick-up tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Aug. 10, 1964 [Nov. 13, 1963], No. 44751/63. Heading H1D. A television or like camera tube includes, adjacent the scanned target, a mesh structure consisting of two meshes M1, M2 in contact with one another one mesh M2 being more lightly tensioned than the other and having an aperture M5 large enough to accommodate the intended scanning raster, so that the scanning beam encounters only the other mesh, vibrations of which are damped by contact with the apertured mesh. During manufacture, the two meshes may be assembled between circular rings M3, M4, the structure being welded together near the outer edge and heat-treated to tension the meshes. The required lesser tensioning of the apertured mesh may be obtained by making this mesh of slightly heavier material than the other mesh and/or slightly slitting the mesh at the corners of the rectangular aperture M5. The meshes may be of copper or nickel, and the apertured mesh is preferably on the side remote from the target of the tube, which may be a vidicon or image orthicon.
