Abstract

1,014,089. Railway vehicle undercarriages. METALASTIK Ltd. Aug. 25, 1964 [Sept. 2, 1963], No. 34525/63. Addition to 870,814. Heading B7L. [Also in Division F2] An improvement in or modification of the invention claimed in claim 2 of the parent Specification 870,814 consists in that the rubber compression spring block is formed in two parts and the frusto-conical rubber ring is disposed between the two parts of the block with one part supporting the ring and the latter supporting the other part. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the side bearer assembly 11 comprises a pair of frusto-conical rubber rings 16, 17, the ring 17 supporting the ring 16 and secured thereto at the outer parts 18 in any convenient manner. The part 15 of the rubber block is supported on a sole bar 7 of the bogie frame and supports the inverted cup 20 of the ring 17. The upright cup 20 of the ring 16 supports the block part 14 in turn supporting the side member 12 of the underframe of the vehicle body 5. The rubber block parts and the rings have interleaves 24 and 21, respectively, and the centres of the parts have holes 28 therethrough, the lower hole being plugged at 29. The upper hole 28 communicates the air space 26 between the rings with an air reservoir in the body underframe bolster 9 which also supports pipe work connecting the reservoir with a source of compressed air, e.g. a separate air receiver carried by the body underframe and connected with the vehicle braking system. Known levelling means may be used with the pneumatic suspension. According to another embodiment the side barrier assemblies at the sides of the bogie are connected together by a hollow transverse plank divided by a centrally positioned partition whereby each space 26 is then connected to a compartment formed in the plank, the two compartments constituting reservoirs. Furthermore, a pair of tubular planks spaced longitudinally of the vehicle may connect the side bearer assemblies, one being connected with the space between one pair of superposed rings and the other connected to the space between the other pair of rings.
