An electric hotplate for an electric cooker comprises a plate body 10 having grooves in its underside, heating elements N 1 , N 2 , N 3 , embedded in insulating material 14 in the grooves, connecting pins 15 fitted to the ends of elements N 1 , N 2 , N 3 , each pin 15 being embedded in the insulating material, and non-insulated connecting bars 16c, 16d secured to pin 15 and passing through an insulating member 19, fitted into a cover 22 of body 10, to make connection with the supply leads. Elements N 1 , N 2 and N 3 are coils. Pins 15 are solid pins fitted into the elements and welded, or are hollow tubes into which straightened end portions of the elements are crimped, or are metal strips rolled about straightened end portions of the elements and pressed therearound. Bars 16c, 16d are soldered or welded to pins 15 and their face ends form flat connecting lugs 18. Overheating protection may be provided.
