Abstract

In a process for the manufacture of an adhesive film which comprises applying a solution of epoxy resin on to a film of polyamide resin in the presence of a phenolic resin in either the polyamide or epoxy resin, and drying, a reaction between the epoxy, amide, and hydroxyl radicals results in the formation of a cross-linking unit structure, <FORM:1013898/C3/1> Specified polyamides are 6,6-nylon, 6,10-nylon, 10,6-nylon and 10,10-nylon. Specified phenolic resins are of the novolak- or resol-types obtained from phenol and formaldehyde as well as bisphenol A-formaldehyde resins. Epoxy resins of 140-165 and 875-1025 epoxy equivalents are exemplified in the preparation of solid resins containing (a) novolak-phenolic resin and epoxy resin and (b) resorcinol-resin and epoxy resin. A mixture of epoxy resin, phenolic resin and nylon is also disclosed.ALSO:Adhesive films are manufactured by applying an epoxy resin solution on to a polyamide resin film in the presence of a phenolic resin in either the polyamide resin or the epoxy resin and drying. Specified polyamide resins are 6,6-nylon, 6,10-nylon, 10,6-nylon and 10,10-nylon. Specified phenolic resins are of the novolak- or resol-types obtained from phenol and formaldehyde as well as bisphenol A-formaldehyde resins.
