Abstract

Compounds of formula <FORM:1013235/C2/1> wherein n is an integer not less than 3 and A is an aliphatic residue of valency n, are made by reacting a C1-4 alkyl, phenyl or toluyl salicylate with a polyhydric alcohol having at least 3 OH groups and acetylating the polyhydric alcohol ester of salicylic acid thus obtained. Exemplified products are: (1) diacetylmannitol tetra-acetylsalicylate, (2) trimethylolpropane triacetylsalicylate, (3) inositol hexa-acetylsalicylate, (4) N - methyl - N - 2 - acetoxybenzoylglucamine penta-acetylsalicylate, (5) sorbitol hexa-acetylsalicylate, (6) pentaerythritol tetra-acetylsalicylate. Polyhydric alcohols otherwise specified are arabitol, xylitol, N,N-dimethylglucamine, triethanolamine and polyvinyl alcohol.
