Abstract

1,012,993. Master cylinders. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. May 9, 1964, No. 19422/64. Heading F2F. A cylinder 10 for actuating brakes houses spring loaded coaxial pistons 12 and 14 on which fluid pressure may act to effect respectively normal braking and emergency braking by operating braking members (not shown) the said cylinder 10 having at its ends fittings from pressure lines relative to normal braking at 22 and to emergency braking at 44 which are sufficiently spaced to assure reliable operation in the case of a breakdown of the filling at one end of the device. The piston 12 is on a skirt 24 and can be made subject to normal pressure in the space A. The piston 14 is on a tubular stem 28 which is slidable through a bush 40 in the top 20 of the cylinder and through the annular space B in which pressure from 44 can reach a space C to operate piston 12 in emergency. A spring 18 normally keeps both pistons pressed towards the end 16 of the cylinder 10. The piston 12 operates the brake rod 34 through the piston 14 and its stem 28.
