Abstract
The invention comprises an aqueous formal-dehyde solution and 5 to 500 parts per million of either an amide having the general formula: <FORM:1012824/C2/1> wherein <FORM:1012824/C2/2> is the residue of the carboxylic acid having at least eight carbon atoms, R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl having one to five carbon atoms and G is a glycityl radical, defined as a monovalent radical C5 to C7 sugar alcohol, or an amide having the general formula: <FORM:1012824/C2/3> wherein R11 is an alkyl radical having from one to five carbon atoms, R111 is an alkylene radical having at least five carbon atoms and G is a glycityl radical, or an amide prepared by the oxyalkylation of an amide of the first general formula with a Cl to C4 alkylene oxide. Numerous formaldehyde compositions composing one of the above amides are claimed per se and typical of which of the first general formula is N-methyl-N-glucatyloleoylamide. The preferred concentration of stabilizer is 25 to 250 parts per million.
