Abstract

The invention comprises a colour and odour stabilized composition of at least one C8- 24 saturated or unsaturated fatty amide and 0.05-0.2% by weight based on amide, of an alkali metal or ammonium borohydride. The composition is preferably made by washing the fatty amide with a hydrocarbon, which may contain a minor proportion of water or acetone, adding the borohydride to the resulting slurry and then drying the slurry by stripping the hydrocarbon therefrom. Preferred hydrocarbons are those containing 3-8 carbon atoms. Examples relate to the treatment of oleyl amide and the amides derived from erucic acid and hydrogenated tallow acids.
