Abstract
A composition comprises a base-stable high molecular weight polyoxymethylene having 0.01 to 5%, based on the polyoxymethylene, of a compound of formula <FORM:1032874/C3/1> where R1, R2 and R3 are hydroxy alkyl groups of one to four carbon atoms or alkyl groups of one to nine carbon atoms and R4 and R5 are hydrogen or alkyl groups having one to four carbon atoms. By base-stable is meant a polymer which has been so treated as to diminish its thermal instability, e.g. by heating, by etherification, or by preparatory involving the oxymethylene units being interspersed with substituted alkylene or aryalkylene units. Specified additives are t-butylamine, N,N-dimethyl - t - butylamine, N - N - butyl - t-butylamine, 2 - amino - 2 - methyl - 1 - propanol, 5 - amino - 5 - methyl - 1 - hexanol, 2 - amino - 2 - methyl - 1,3 - propanediol, 2 - amino - 2 - ethyl - 1,3 - propandiol, 2 - dimethylamino - 2 - methyl - 1 - propanol, 1,1 - dimethyl - 1 - decylamine, N - N - dimethyl - 1,1 - dimethyl - 1 - amylamine and trimethylol - aminomethane. Antioxidants, e.g. 2,21 - methylene - bis - (4 - methyl - 6 - tert - butylphenol) and stabilizers, e.g. the terpolymer of 38% caprolactum, 35% hexamethylene adipamide and 27% hexamethylene sebacamide may also be present.
