Abstract

1,012,686. Composite wood. WESTAG-GETALIT A.G. Aug. 24, 1962 [June 16, 1962], No. 32627/62. Heading B5L. A wood spiral interlayer for cabinetwork panels comprises wood spirals 1, Fig. 1, in close contact with one another and glued to one another at their points 2 of contact to form a mat-like structure capable of being cut to specific sizes. The interlayer is produced by feeding the wood spirals by means of a conveyer 7 and guide bars 11 to a glue application roller 10, the wood spirals rolling on the underside of the bars which are spaced apart by a distance greater than the glue application surface of the roller 10. The glue is applied as a strip at the centre of the peripheries of the wood spirals which, after gluing, fall on to an inclined shoot 15. The lower end of the shoot has a pivoted portion 16 which distributes the wood spirals in a sinusoidal path on a conveyer belt 17. The spirals are held by a bar 20 and assembled as shown in Fig. 1 so that they contact one another to be glued together to form the interlayer which may then be cut to size and fitted between the facing surfaces of a panel, such as a door.
