Abstract

A support stocking which may be either fully fashioned or seamless has the leg portion knitted of a nylon covered spanden yarn and a raw nylon mono-filament yarn of 1 to 4 ends in an alternating sequence of courses. The spanden yarn is composed of a 70 denier multifilament yarn wrapped with two ends of 20 denier multifilament nylon in alternating reversed direction helical windings. The nylon yarn comprises either a single monofilament or up to 4 monofilament ends totaling about 15 to 30 denier. The spanden yarn has a stretch capacity of about 100 to 150% of its original unstretched length and the stitch density of the stocking when stretched averages 1000 stitches per square inch.
