Abstract

1,012,212. Roadway crash barriers; posts. BRITISH ROPES Ltd. July 16, 1963 [July 20, 1962], No. 28085/62. Headings E1B and E1G. A crash barrier comprises a plurality of steel, timber or other posts 33 set in the ground and supporting one or more ropes 14-17, attached such that the wire ropes become detached from or slide along the posts when the latter are deformed. The wire ropes 14-17 are anchored in a concrete block by a plate 43 and tensioned by strainers 40; the ropes passing over supports 38, 39 on an end post 31 and being received by clipped steel bands 50 to intermediate posts 30. Chain link fencing may extend between the posts supported by a wire 18. The posts are inserted in holes in concrete blocks 29 and secured therein by wooden wedges. In modifications the posts may have internal (Fig. 7) or external (Fig. 11) corrugations to support the wire ropes which are tied by bands 50.
