Abstract

[Also in Division B7] In an apparatus for cleaning mine cars, wagons, trucks or the like (see Division B7), adherent material, e.g. coal or sugar, is removed from the inside of the car by picking up a mine car 5 on a section 2 of track beside a platform 3 by means of an hydraulically operated tipper 1, swinging the car over and depositing it upside down on the platform 3 which is mechanically, electrically or magnetically vibrated. Material dislodged from the car 5 by vibration falls through apertures 36 in the platform 3, through a steel hopper carried by the frame 23 and on to a vibrating feeder which conveys it to a further feeder, e.g. the feeder on to which the car loads are discharged by a main cartipper. The vibrating platform 3 comprises a live frame 23 mounted on helical springs 24 resting on a fixed frame 25, and mechanically vibrated by a shaft 21 carrying adjustable eccentric weights 28 running in double-row roller bearings 29, and housed in a casing 22 bolted to the frame 23. The shaft 21 is driven through a V-belt 30 from a squirrel-cage electric motor 31. The vibrating mechanism may comprise an eccentrically mounted steel cylinder having angularly adjustable weights. Rubber friction blocks, mounted in a boss 26 on the frame 23, rub on brackets 27 on the fixed frame 25 to limit sideways swinging of the frame. The vibrating platform 3 carries car supports 32 and has a flange 33 slotted at 34 to receive the end parts 34 of claws of the tipper 1. The tipper 1 comprises a movable frame 4 including two claws having limbs 6 to which a section 2 of maintenance track is fitted, the car 5 being pushed manually or mechanically into the claws. The movable frame 4 is pivoted at 7 to arms 8 swingable about 9 in the fixed frame of the tipper 1. The inversion of the frame 4 is effected by two double-acting hydraulic cylinders 11, 16. The ram 10 of the cylinder 11 is pivoted at 12 to the movable frame 4, and the cylinder 11 is pivoted at 13 to the fixed frame; the ram 15 of the cylinder 16 is pivoted at 14 to the movable frame, and the cylinder 16 is pivoted at 9 to the fixed frame. The movable frame 4 is inverted by inward motion of the ram 10 and outward motion of the ram 15. The hydraulic pressure is provided by gear pump driven by a flame-proof electric motor mounted with an hydraulic reservoir on the bedplate of the tipper 1. A pressure relief valve is provided between the pump and the reservoir, and a stroke control valve is employed to cushion terminal movements of the tipper. The tipper 1 and the platform 3 may be made long enough to accommodate more than one car at a time.
