Abstract
1,011,881. Glazing windows, walls &c. WILLIAMS & WILLIAMS Ltd. March 8, 1962 [Dec. 9, 1960], No. 42566/60, Heading E1R. Panels 16 of glass or other sheet material are joined and supported over a girder 22 by a flexible, resilient sealing strip 1 of polythene or natural or synthetic rubber, which has longitudinal side channels with grooved top surfaces, for receiving the panels, and a longitudinal upper channel 5 into which is forced a wedge or other shaped key for forcing the flaps 6 into contact with the panels. In Fig. 3 the key is kept in position by bolts passing into the web of the girder, and cover strips or brackets 25 are provided round the interior portion of the sealing strip and held in place by lateral bolts 27. In Fig. 6, clamping strips 38, of stainless steel, are held to the strip by bolts 35 passing through the bulbous key 30, and the sealing strip completely encloses the girder. Other examples include variations of the above, with sealing strips curtailed so as just to grip the ends of the girder flanges, a bulbous sealing strip with a top flange overlapping the sealing strip (Fig. 7, not shown) in which example the fixing bolts pass only through the base portion of the sealing strip, and not the key; an example with a clamping strip but no key (Fig. 8, not shown), and an example with a box girder and only one groove along the upper surface of each channel, with a similar groove in the lower surface also (Fig. 9, not shown).
