Abstract

1,011,272. Hydraulic brakes; indicators for brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Sept. 16, 1963 [Oct. 1, 1962], No. 37121/62. Headings F2E and F2F. In an hydraulic master cylinder for vehicle brakes the reservoir is provided with an aperture 17 in the base thereof to receive a boss 8 integral with the cylinder body 1 of the master cylinder the boss 8 having a bore 7 providing an opening in the master cylinder for the passage of hydraulic liquid between the master cylinder and the reservoir, the reservoir being secured by securing means in the form of a screwed bush 19 engageable with the boss and arranged to clamp the reservoir to the master cylinder. The reservoir 11 may be made in a clear or translucent plastics material with a filler opening provided in a metal closure portion of the reservoir 11, the opening being in alignment with the bush 19 so that the latter may be tightened by means of a box spanner projecting through the filler opening which is afterwards closed by a plug member 14. Fig. 4 shows an alternative embodiment suitable for use in a tandem master cylinder. A passage 51 connects the two compartments 52, 53 of the reservoir body 54 and a closure, plate 55 is provided with a single filler opening 56 which is positioned so as partially to overlap one end of the passage 51 at its higher end and the adjacent compartment whereby during filling hydraulic liquid can be supplied to both compartments.
