Abstract

In a method of cooling reaction gases from the liquid-phase oxidation of organic compounds with air or gases containing molecular oxygen, the gases from one or more oxidation apparatus 1 are led through a scrubber 2 in which they are cooled by contact with flowing liquid on its way to the apparatus 1. Water vapour entrained in the reaction gases is at the same time condensed out and is separated from the liquid in a separator 3. From the separator the liquid passes into the upper part of the apparatus 1. Air is introduced into the lower part of, and crude reaction product is withdrawn from the base of the apparatus f as shown by the arrows.
