Abstract

1473438 Wet oxidation process BARBERCOLMAN CO 24 Oct 1975 [29 Oct 1974] 43826/75 Heading C 1C A process for wet oxidation of organic matter in solution or dispersion in an aqueous liquid in which the wet oxidation is carried out by introducing the aqueous liquid containing the organic matter into a reaction zone, wet oxidizing at elevated temperature and pressure during travel through the reaction zone by introducing oxygen-containing gas into the liquid in the reaction zone wherein heat released by exothermic oxidation effects conversion of liquid to vapour in the reaction zone, comprises continuously flowing liquid and vapour from the reaction zone, at the final stages of the reaction, into a disengaging zone for separating the liquid and vapour into a vapour phase and a liquid phase, and removing the separated vapour and liquid separately from the disengagement zone. An apparatus is also claimed. Sewage, or other organic matter, may be treated at, e.g. 446‹ F. and 600 p.s.i.g.
