Abstract
101,042. O'Malley, P. Jan. 19, 1916. Closets &c., disinfecting and deodorizing.-Relates to apparatus for spraying liquid or powdered disinfectant in a lavatory or other room, of the type in which an air-pump secured to the door supplies air to an atomizer and acts as a door check, and consists in combining the door check and atomizer to form a self-contained unit. In one form, the container 1, Fig. 1, is pivoted to the bracket 8 on the door (or frame), and the pistonrod 5 is pivoted to the bracket 6 on the frame (or door). The piston 4, which consists of a cupleather 4a, expanded by a spring ring 27 held in place by projections 4b, is drawn back when the door is opened, and forces air through the orifice 10 over the end of the tube 11, up which the disinfectant is drawn, when the door is closed by the action of a spring 29 or of air compressed behind the piston. The device can be put out of operation by closing the tube 11 by means of a pin 12. In a modification, the piston-rod is attached by a bridge-piece 14, Fig. 3, to a rod 15 moving in guides 16, 17 and actuated by a rod 19 pivoted to a loose collar 18, which engages an adjustably fixed collar 23 to move the piston when the door is opened. At the end of the movement, a spring catch 21 engages the guide 16 and retains the piston until depressed by the collar 18 when the door is nearly closed.
