Abstract
1,009,653. Humidifying gases. UNITED STEEL CO. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 2, 1963], No. 30766/63. Heading B1R. In a method of cooling hot furnace gases by spraying water into the hot gases before they pass to a dry dust separator the humidity of the cooled gases is controlled so that the gases entering the dry separator are not fully saturated by dividing the hot gas stream at least twice and preferably three times into two streams of the same order one of which is made fully saturated by spraying water into it and recombining the two streams to produce a partially saturated gaseous stream. The portion of the whole gas stream sprayed with water may be between 40% and 70% and as shown in Fig. 1 the division of the whole gas stream is effected by partitions 11 and 12 in ducts 1 and 7. In a modified apparatus the dividing partitions are horizontally placed in conduits through which the gases pass.
