Abstract
1,009,563. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE (SERVICE NATIONAL). March 24, 1964 [April 1, 1963], No. 12467/64. Heading H2A. Ionization of the gas in a magnetohydrodynamic generator duct is increased by the production of short duration arcs or discharges between electrodes situated in several places in the duct. The walls 5 of the duct comprise spaced electrodes 3, 4 which supply power to loads 10 when an ionized gas is forced in direction F through the transverse magnetic field H. Ionization electrodes 8, 9 are supported in opposed walls 2 of the duct and are supplied with high frequency pulses of power to produce a brief arc discharge between ends 8a, 9a of the electrodes. The gas used may be argon seeded with 0.1 % potassium and a resistor/capacitor circuit used to provide the power for the arc discharge.
