Abstract

1,009,157. Cutting-out presses. FLOXITE CO. Inc. April 22, 1964, No. 16686/64. Heading B4B. [Also in Division A5] In a punch and die machine for tearing from a paper sheet a strip having bevelled edges constituted by a continuous series of uniform serrations, the die has an opening provided with a continuous series of uniform horizontally projecting serrations and the punch has a recessed bottom the surfaces of which are inclined at a small angle to the horizontal and intersect the opposite vertical walls of the punch at acute angles entirely around the punch, the bottom surfaces intersecting each other at obtuse angles. In the form shown for tearing from a paper sheet A, a strip B having serrations D, a die 1 has an opening 2 provided with teeth 3 and the punch 5 has a recessed bottom 6 the surfaces 7 of which intersect the opposite walls of the punch at acute angles 8, the surfaces 7 intersecting each other at obtuse angles 9. The work is held during tearing by a resilient cushion 12. In a modification, the strip produced is of double rhomboidal form. Alternatively, it may be oval or rectangular.
