Abstract
1,009,139. Card clothing. JOSEPH SELLERS & SON Ltd. May 8, 1964 [March 21, 1963], No. 11207/63. Heading D1N. Card clothing has wire teeth that project above a foundation at a forward angle to produce the best stripping action and with front edges inclined to form faces at an angle providing the best carding action, these faces being produced by shearing or cropping the teeth so as to give the faces a surface roughness while leaving the rear edges of the teeth comparatively smooth. The rough forward faces 4 improve the holding properties of the wire during carding, but the other smooth surfaces, such as 5, allow the stripping properties to be unimpaired. The wire is preferably of rectangular section with a front-to-rear dimension approximately three times that of the width. A "knee" may be formed in the wire or it may be straight. Owing to the teeth lying at a sharp angle in the foundation the crowns project beyond its undersurface and a layer of sponge rubber or other material may be applied to the underface.
