Abstract

1,008,486. Gettering. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 4, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 47897/63. Heading H1D. A getter arrangement for a vacuum vessel, e.g. an electron tube, comprises a supply of getter material enclosed in a protective envelope at least part of which is formed by two apertured metal layers 6, 7 between which is sandwiched a metal foil 11 having a lower melting point than the apertured layers. The getter material may be obtained by granulating a pressed mixture of zirconium hydride and powdered tungsten and may be accommodated in a wire netting container 2 of stainless steel The layers 6 and 7 may be of expanded copper nickel sheet and the foil 11 of aluminium. When the foil is melted the apertures of the layers 6 and 7 are interconnected and the aluminium alloys with the nickel of the layers 6 and 7.
