Braiding-machines.-In a plaiting or braiding machine in which the thread containers or carriers travel in a. figure-of-eight or other serpentine path and are transferred automatically from one curve to another, the thread-containers a, Fig. 5, are provided at each end with a flange a<1> carrying two catches a<2> and a projection a<3>. The projection a<3> on the lower flange travels in a groove c' Fig. 4, in a plate c. The groove is of the shape shown in Fig. 4, having only one point of intersection. The thread-containers are carried round by disl;s b, Fig. 1, having semicircular openings to accommodate the containers and pins b<2> to engage the catches a<2> on the containers. The shape of the groove c<1> is such that the containers a are given a partial rotation by the double convex segment c<2> to release the catch on one side from the pin of one disk and to engage the catch on the other side with the pin on the other disk. The disks b are driven by bevel-gearing d, d<1> from the main shaft d<2>. The take-up rollers e<1>, e<3> are driven by bevel, worm, and spur gearing from the same shaft. The upper roller e<5> is loose upon its spindle e<3>, which slides on vertical guides e<2>, adjustable springs e<6> providing the requisite pressure. The cores of the plaits are led through openings in the stationary vertical shafts f<2>, which serve as supports for the hollow bushes b<3> of the disks b. A stationary finger may be provided to operate upon the projection on the upper flange of the thread-container.
