Braiding - machines. -Cops, balls, or other windings of thread &c. are employed from which the thread &c. can be drawn through a relatively stationary tension device without the cop &c. being caused to rotate on its own axis. The cop &c. is carried in a casing a, Fig. 6, and the thread &c. is led over two tension rails a<6> carried by a removable cap a<4> with a spring catch a<5>. Each casing is provided at the top and bottom with flanges carrying two catches a<2>, and a projection a<3>; these engage respectively pins b<2> on plates b and a groove c' in a guide-plate c. The plates bare rotated by bevel-gearing d, d<1> to carry the casings a in a figure-of-eight path, the transference from one curve to the other being effected by the finger c<2> and, if desired, by a second finger to act on the upper projection a . The lower takeup roller e<4> is driven by gearing from the shaft d<2>, and the upper take-up roller e<5> is loose on its shaft e<3>, which can move up and down the standard e<2> under the control of springs e<6>.
