Abstract

The invention comprises N-[3-(2,5-dimethoxyphenoxy) propyl] - N - [2 - (2 - methoxyphenoxy) ethyl]-guanidine and its pharmaceutically-acceptable acid addition salts, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their preparation by reacting an acid addition salt of the corresponding amine with cyanamide, optionally followed by conversion to the free base or a different acid addition salt. N - [3 - (2,5 - Dimethoxyphenoxy) propyl]-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy) ethylamine is prepared by reacting 3 - (2,5 - dimethoxyphenoxy) propyl bromide with 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy) ethylamine. The compounds of the invention are antihypertensive agents, and may be administered orally or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets, capsules, elixirs, suspensions and solutions) containing them together with a carrier.
