Abstract

1,007,635. Spray-producers. D. B. MclNTYRE. Oct. 28, 1963 [Dec. 6, 1962], No. 42445/63. Heading B2F. Hot adhesive fluid is intermittently sprayed from a continuously rotating nozzle comprising inner and outer metal cylindrical members 1 and 3. The intermittent nature of the discharge is accomplished by effecting relative axial movement of the members whilst they rotate, such movement arising from the reciprocable actuation of a fork-member 21 secured to the rear end of the member 1. The fork-member is operated by an air cylinder 19 controlled from a synchronizer 23 which' defines the programme of actuation of the nozzle through its control of the air cylinder and a motor which rotates the combined members 1 and 3. The latter are prevented from relative rotation by a connecting slot-and-pin arrangement 15<SP>1</SP>, 15 which allows the necessary degree of relative axial movement. This degree is defined by the axial movement necessary between the members 1 and 3 to alternatively cut-off and connect the alignment between adhesive discharge openings 2<SP>1</SP> and 3<SP>1</SP> in the respective members. The members rotate within a stationary fluid supply housing 9 in bearings 19 and fluid passes from annular cavities 11 to four equiangularly spaced apertures 3<SP>11</SP> in the member 3 from whence it flows to an axial bore 2 in the member 1 through an annular recess 7, formed between the members, and four equiangularly spaced apertures 2<SP>11</SP> in the member 1.
