Abstract
An abrasive article comprises a backing on or in which abrasive particles are bonded a paste of a lubricating grease loaded with comminuted materials having a filiform, foliate or schistous microstructure being applied to the surface of the article. Specified materials are steatites, asbestos, fossil or active earths, silica gel, and/or chemically and/or physically activated earths. The grease can contain 3-20% hard waxes, cellulose derivatives, linear polyamides and can act as a support for the paste. The support may also contain metallic powder, fibre powder, cereal husk flour and/or textile or other filaments. There can be alternating layers of paste and supporting films. The paste, which may contain an epoxy resin, has a fatty base of 60% mineral oils, 30% animal and vetetable fats and 10% metallic soaps and dispersant. The paste is applied to grinding wheels, abrasive belts and fibre discs, which if expended can be reactivated for further use.
