Abstract

<PICT:1007371/C4-C5/1> A radiation dosimeter comprises a radio-photoluminescent phosphate glass square 17 which luminesces under U.V. after exposure to X- or g -rays and which has a fritted coating formed of opaque, non-reflecting, non-fluorescent material on one of its faces and three of its edges. This reduces changes in luminescence of the glass due to contaminants. The glass is preferably composed of, in parts by weight, 8 silver metaphosphate, 25 barium metaphosphate, 25 potassium metaphosphate, 50 aluminium metaphosphate, m.p. 950 DEG F., and the frit is formed of powdered glass plus an oxide, e.g. of iron, lead, chrome or cobalt, m.p. 850 DEG F.ALSO:A radiation dosimeter comprises a radio-photoluminescent phosphate glass square which luminesses under U.V. after exposure to X- or g -rays and which has a filtered coating formed of opaque, non-reflecting, non-fluorescent material on one of its faces and three of its edges. This reduces changes in the luminescence of the glass due to contaminants. The glass is preferably composed of, in parts by weight, 8 silver metaphosphate, 25 barium metaphosphate, 25 potassium metaphosphate and 50 aluminium metaphosphate, m.p. 950 DEG F., and the frit is formed of powdered glass plus an oxide, e.g. of iron, lead, chrome, or cobalt, to give a m.p. of 850 DEG F.
