Abstract
1,006,953. Artificial arms. HUGH STEEPER Ltd. Oct. 30, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 41674/62. Heading A5R. In an artificial arm substantially identical constructions are employed for both the elbow and shoulder joints. In the elbow joint a hemispherical member 2F, of nylon or other suitable material, supports the forearm member 1 on a pivot bolt 3F which has friction washers 3D, 3E at each end, giving adjustable control by means of the cap nut 4. A spigot member 2C, secured by a screw 3A, permits rotational movement of the forearm and holds the flat face of the member 2F against a friction disc 2G on a plug 2A fitted in the upper arm 2. The same construction is used as the shoulder joint as shown, the spigot 2C permitting forward and backward swinging movement of the arm while the pivot 3F allows it to be raised and lowered sideways.
