Abstract
1,006,635. Waveguides. HACKETHALDRAHT - UND KABEL - WERKE A.G. April 9, 1963 [April 25, 1962], No. 14120/63. Heading H1W. Frequency-dependent rotation of the plane of polarization of waves propagated in a helically-corrugated waveguide is compensated by using two connected lengths of waveguide having opposite directions of rotation of the corrugations. The change in direction of polarization can thus be reduced to zero, or to any desired magnitude. The connected waveguides are not necessarily of the same diameter; a decrease in diameter enables a reduction in the length necessary for a given compensation. At the transition from one waveguide to the other the corrugations may be reduced in depth, preferably to the value zero, over a certain length towards the transition. The reduction may be continuous or in stages. Where one waveguide is so long that a rotation exceeding 180 degrees or a multiple thereof is produced, only the excess rotation need be compensated.
