Abstract

The corrosive action of water containing chloride ions upon metals is retarded by the addition to the water of a condensed sodium/calcium/zinc and silicon containing phosphate. A mixture of monosodium phosphate, crude tricalcium phosphate containing silica and zinc oxide is melted at 1000-1200 DEG C. and cooled slowly in air at a layer thickness of about 10 cms. to give a condensed phosphate containing 5 to 15% by weight of zinc as zinc oxide.
