Abstract

Free-flowing crystalline zinc chloride which contains less than 1% residual water and is substantially free from dust can be obtained by removing water from a purified solution of zinc chloride in two stages. In the first stage the solution is concentrated in a vacuum of 12-20 mm. mercury at a temperature of 80 DEG -110 DEG C. to give a resultant crystalline product containing 2-10% water. The crystal mass is then heated without the application of a vacuum to a temperature of 150 DEG -200 DEG C. and the remaining water is driven off by the reapplication of the above vacuum whilst storing.
