Abstract
A polyolefin surfaced photographic support material is made by electron bombarding, as by corona discharge, a flexible support, e.g. paper, applying a layer of polyolefin thereto and subsequently bombarding the surface of the polyolefin so that the water contact angle is reduced to less than 75 degrees, preferably between 40 degrees and 75 degrees. The paper support may be multiple paper board, kraft papers, unsized papers or melamine-formaldehyde sized paper and the polyolefin, polyethylene or polypropylene, possibly pigmented with titanium dioxide. In an example 18-ply paper board is subjected to corona discharge and extrusion coated with polythene which is subsequently electron bombarded by the method of Specification 971,058. The resulting photographic support may then be coated with a layer of silver halide emulsion. U.S.A. Specifications 2,864,755 and 2,864,756 also are referred to.
