Abstract

1,005,562. Valves. HONEYWELL G.m.b.H. Aug. 27, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 35109/64. Heading F2V. A reversible valve actuator comprises a stem 7 coupled to a valve member 51, a supporting structure 9 for mounting the actuator on a valve body 50, a spring 54 to provide a force acting in opposition to motion of the stem in a selected sense, a pair of stops 62, 64 mounted on the stem at points spaced apart along its length, a pair of end members 52, 53 at opposite ends of the spring and capable of movement relative to the stem, and a further stop 59 secured to the supporting structure for engagement by one of the end members. With the further stop arranged as shown, the spring biases the stem upwardly while arranging it between the upper stop 62 and end member 52 biases the stem downwardly. The support 59 has jaws 55, 56 held in clamped engagement with the structure 9 by a bolt 57 and a selfcentering seat 66 for engagement by the end member. In the preferred embodiment, the valve is actuated by changes in fluid-pressure on a diaphragm 1, the movement of the diaphragm being limited by stops 65, and in Fig. 5, by engagement of a nut 18 on the stem with flanges 19, 20 at the ends of a spindle 17 of square or hexagonal section which may be turned by a hand wheel 11 to adjust the valve manually. In a further modification, a hollow bush on the diaphragm co-operates with a stop at one end of a manually-adjustable screwed spindle.
