Abstract

1,005,261. Transistor switching circuits. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. May 8, 1963 [May 16, 1962], No. 18898/62. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] In an arrangement for protecting electronic equipment employing semi-conductors against excessive supply voltages a Zener diode is connected in series with a resistor between the supply line and earth, the voltage across the resistor triggering a bi-stable switching device to apply a low impedance connection between the line and earth upon the supply voltage rising above a predetermined value and thereby to blow a fuse F1. In a first embodiment the switching device is a silicon controlled rectifier CR; the protective circuit is connected to the line by a diode D and may be connected also to several other lines by similar means. In a second embodiment the switching device takes the form of a bi-stable circuit employing transistors T1, T2 and controlling a third transistor T3 connected between the supply line and earth.
