Abstract

The invention comprised 1 - bromo - 1-chloro - 2,2 - difluoropropane and the preparation thereof by the halogenation of 1-chloro-2,2-difluoropropane with bromine or of 1-bromo-2,2-difluoropropane with chlorine optionally by heating the reactants together preferably between 250 DEG -600 DEG C. or at a lower temperature, in the presence of U.V. light.ALSO:Inhalent anaesthetic compositions comprise 1-bromo-1-chloro-2, 2-difluoropropane in admixture with oxygen optionally with the addition of one or more inhalation anaesthetics for example ether, chloroform, nitrous oxide, ethylene, trichloroethylene, cyclopropane, halothane, divinyl ether, trifluoroethyl vinyl ether, or methoxyflurane of the formula CHCl2 , CF2 , OCH3. The invention also includes the process for the production of anaesthesia in animals excluding man which comprises the administration of an inhalation anaesthetic composition referred to above.
