Abstract

Polyethylene bottles are blow moulded by the method described in the parent Specification 789,816, but using several split moulds arranged to be positioned beneath an extrusion nozzle in turn by moving both mould halves relative to the extrusion nozzle. Split moulds 2, 4 are placed on a revolving circular table 1 below an extrusion head 8. The mould halves 4 being movable radially to open the moulds by means of a cam positioned below the table. There may be two extrusion heads 8, 8a to produce articles of different colours or weights in the same moulds. The extrusion is intermittent to prevent smearing of material on shearing blades 7. Mould halves 14, 18 operated by a toggle mechanism or an hydraulically or pneumatically operated piston and cylinder (see Fig. 2, not shown) are mounted on a plate 10 rotatable about a horizontal axis. Either the mould halves or extrusion head may be mounted on wheels (see Fig. 3, not shown). In Fig. 4, mould halves 46a, 49a and 46b, 49b are mounted on triangular end plates 40, 41 which are mounted for a rocking movement about a horizontal axis at or near their apices to position one split mould beneath the extrusion head 54 consecutively.
