Abstract

1,003,616. Two-part couplings. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 26, 1963 [July 31, 1962], No. 29747/63. Heading H2E. A fitting for an elongated light source for mounting in a row of such fittings and provided at its ends with plug and socket connector parts, respectively, for the supply of current to an adjoining corresponding fitting, is characterized in that either the plug or socket connector part is adapted to be displaced longitudinally within the fitting. The lamp-holders 1, 2 (Fig. 1) are attached to the hollow supports 3, 4 of two such fittings, the part 5 of one fitting carrying pins 15 and the part 6 of the other fitting carrying sockets 16. The part 5 is axially movable through a sleeve 8, by means of a toothed rack 10 which meshes with a pinion 12, rotatablyby a knob 114 (Fig. 2, not shown). Thus the plug part 5 may be moved to couple with the socket part 6 of the adjoining fitting. Dust- and moisture-proof sealing is provided by sealing rings 19, 20 and by portion 17. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the part 6 is provided with an external screw-thread 24, and may be displaced longitudinally by turning a nut 25 with a spanner. A third embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) is similar to the second except for two additional threaded sleeves 29, 30 which are screwed in to compress the sealing rings 35, after the plug and socket parts have been coupled. In a fourth embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the part 6 is displaced longitudinally by means of a crank mechanism. The plug part 5 is mounted with a spring 42 biased towards the socket part 6. Sealing rings are provided.
