Abstract

Rubber chemical agglomerates are produced from a dough formed by mixing a rubber chemical in finely-divided form with solid particles of an aliphatic mono-carboxylic acid containing 12 or more carbon atoms and an appropriate quantity of water. The acid is usually a saturated straight chain acid, especially pure or commercial grade stearic acid, and is generally present as less than 10% of the dry weight of the rubber chemical. Optionally part of the acid may be present as a derivative thereof for example a metal salt or ester. Water is usually present in the dough as 15 to 40% of the dry weight of the rubber chemical. It is preferred to add a wetting agent to the dough and optionally the dough may also contain a mineral oil or wax. The agglomerates may be dried, for example, in an air oven at 40 DEG to 70 DEG C. Specified rubber chemicals are N - cyclohexyl and N - t - butyl benzthiazyl-2 - sulphenamides; 2 - (morpholinothio) and 2-(mercapto) benzthiazoles; 2 - benzthiazyl disulphide; diphenylguanidine; tetramethyl and tetraethyl thiuram-disulphides; zinc diethyldithiocarbamate; polymerized - 2,2,4-trimethyl - 1,2 - dihydroquinoline; and nitrosated polymerised-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 712,331.
