1,003,407. Tandem axle suspensions. JONAS WOODHEAD & SONS Ltd. July 29, 1964 [Sept. 12, 1963], No. 36043/63. Heading B7D. In a suspensionarrangement for tandem axles 10, 11 only one of which is driven, clamping boxes 17, 18 attached to the frame 22 by inclined links 25, 26 and interconnected by a torque tube 16 support laminated springs 14, 15 arranged in V-formation with their proximate ends connected to the driven axle 10 and their spaced ends connected to the other axle 11. The inclined links 25, 26 define at their projected intersection a low instantaneous centre of rotation for the springs 14, 15, and the narrow spacing of the springs at their connection to the driven axle reduces weight transfer between the driven wheels 12 during roll. Radius rods 27, 28 complete location of the axles 10, 11.
