Abstract
100,308. Massey, G. April 16, 1975, [Convention date]. Electrically-actuated valves.-Relates to the control by electrical means of the main hydraulic valve of a hydraulically-operated lift. The valve P, Fig. 4, is operated by the lever 0 attached to the toothed rack 0', Figs. 3 and 4. The motor N, provided with a magnetic brake N<2>, operates the worm N<3> and consequently the worm-wheel H. The worm wheel is mounted on the boss of one member I of an electromagnetic clutch, the other member I' being attached to the shaft E. The toothed wheel G is mounted on the shaft E, and operates the rack O<1>. When the starting- switch is operated, the motor N turns and the coils M are energized, thus pulling the armature I' into engagement with the member I. The wheel G and rack 0' are thus operated, and the valve P is opened. At the same time, the weight R is wound up on the pulley F until the pin F<2> strikes one of the switches Q, Q', according to the direction in which the lift is moving. These switches are arranged between the main switch and the motor N, so that, when the switch is operated, the brake N<2> is actuated and stops the motor N. The lift continues to move until it reaches the desired level, when the current is cut off, the clutch I is de-energized, and the weight R falls, thus bringing the valve into the closed position. In a modification, the worm gear N<3>, H is replaced by a chain and sprocket-wheel. When low-pressure water is being used, the valve is made larger and the toothed wheel G gears directly with a rack mounted on the valve stem.
