Abstract

1,002,762. Folding tables. EDWARD DOHERTY & SONS Ltd. Nov. 13, 1961 [Nov. 11, 1960], No. 38815/60. Heading A4H. A folding table has legs 2, yoked together in pairs at 3, which are attached to the table top 1 by pin and slot hinges and are urged into their extended position, as shown, or into the inwardly folded out-of-use position by a flat spring 15 secured at 16 to the top 1 and having up-turned lugs 17 which help to prevent the legs 2 from splaying outwards. Each hinge comprises a slotted element 8 riveted to the top 1 through lugs 12, and flat-sided bars 11 passing through the slots 9 and fixed to the yoke 3. The lower part of the slot 9 is enlarged as at 10 to permit the bar 11 to rotate when the legs 2 are folded inwardly, handles 4 projecting through openings 5 in the top 1, and hand-grips 6 formed in the top being used together in erecting or collapsing the table. The slot portion 10 may have projections which restrict the inward rotation of the legs. Specification 816,952 is referred to.
