Abstract
Monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1002439/C4-C5/1> wherein Y is a hydrogen or chlorine atom, X is a hydrogen atom, or when Y is a hydrogen atom, may be a nitro-trifluoromethyl or -COOR1 group (R1 being C1-C4 alkyl) and R is an alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl group which may be substituted by at least one halogen atom or hydroxy, alkoxy, hydroxyalkoxy, acyloxy or carboxyalkyl group, are specified. They are used to dye polyesters (see Division D1) in orange shades. The dyes are prepared by coupling an appropriate diazotized ortho-nitroaniline with a 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid ester or by condensing a 1-(21-nitro)-phenylazo -2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid chloride with an alcohol R-OH.ALSO:Shaped structures of linear aromatic polyesters, e.g. fibres, fabrics or foils, are dyed or printed by applying thereto an aqueous dispersion of one or more monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1002439/D1-D2/1> wherein Y is a hydrogen or chlorine atom, X is a hydrogen atom or, when Y is a hydrogen atom, may be a nitro, trifluoromethyl or -COOR group (R1 being a C1-C4 alkyl group) and R is an alkyl, alkeryl or cycloalkyl group which may be substituted by halogen atoms or hydroxy, alkoxy, hydroxy-alkoxy, acyloxy or carboxyalkyl groups. In examples polyethylene terephthalate fibres and fabric are dyed in a bath at 120 DEG C or printed with an aqueous paste of the above dyes and the prints fixed at 200 DEG C. Yellowish and reddish orange shades are obtained.
