Abstract

1,002,416. Liquid conductivity measuring apparatus. WAYNE KERR LABORATORIES Ltd., and R. CALVERT. Feb. 19, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6401/62. Heading G1N. In an apparatus for measuring liquid conductivity comprising a pipe 11 of insulating material in a metallic pipe line 10, current from an A.C. source is caused to flow between an electrode 12 and the two metal pipes 10, and the potential gradients arising from the current flow are detected by pairs of electrodes 13, 14; 15,16 connected to high impedance feedback amplifiers 25, 28, the sum of the amplifier voltages being used to regulate the current supplied to electrode 12, by means of a servomotor 37, which responds to error signals from a comparator 35 wherein the sum of the voltages is compared with a reference voltage from a source 36. The regulation is effected by a potentiometer 21 and the current indicated by meter 38 is shown by mathematical analysis to be an indication of conductivity. The arrangement is said to overcome boundary layer effects at composite current feeding and measuring electrodes, and may operate an alarm or affect control annular electrodes which do not impede the flow of liquid may be used, and the reference source may be a further winding on transformer 18. Current electrodes may be provided in the pipe.
