Abstract

The invention comprises 4-(N-p-toluoyl)-21-deoxy-5-fluoro-cytidine and its alpha anomer, and a process for their preparation comprises mixing 4 - (N - p - toluoyl) - 31, 51 - di - (O - p -toluoyl) - 21 - deoxy - 5 - fluoro - cytidine or its alpha anomer with an alkali metal alkoxide, e.g. sodium methoxide, or with alcoholic ammonia at room temperature or below.
